The code we use to trigger those relays may need to be tuned (mh/lib/PAobj.pm), but should be not to big of a change. > 2. Is the correct wiring (1) Sound Card to (2) PA Amp to (3) Universal > relay card to (4) speaker and then also (1) PC Serial port to DIO board > to (2) Universal relay card? Yep, sounds right. I think weeder now has the option of a digital output card with built in relays, so you might use that instead of a seperate card like I outlined in that article. > 3. Assuming I've got the sequence above right, what wires connect what > and what gauge wire? The sound card -> pa would need to be shielded rca coax cable (standard audio type). From the pa amp through the relays an on out to the speaker can be thin phone or cat5 wire. Thats the big advantage of a PA system ... you can distribute audio with small wires without worrying about loss or noise, since it uses a higher voltage. The disadvantage is you need transformers at the receiving end (built into the speaker boxes with pa type speakers), and the audio quality is not as good as hi-fi sound. Good enough for voice though. > 4. Is the desired configuration to keep all the components except for > the speakers in the wiring closet? Thats what I do. Except my pc, which is 30 feet from the wiring closet. Bruce |
