Mostly to play with. :) I work in tele and data comms, so it's nice to be able to muck with voice protocols at home. The other advantage I've found is VoicePulse, which has a no-commitment service where you can use asterisk to make calls to the PSTN using VOIP. I route all of my long distance calls over it, as well as use it for a second line. The fact that it's no commitment, there's no first-minute connect fee, no monthly fee, and it's partial minute billing makes it fairly cheap for the little bit of long distance that I do. I'm almost committed enough to see if I can get ride of long distance all together on my landline and save the monthly fees I'm paying. Sorry for the plug. I get to log ingoing AND outgoing calls. I can route incoming PSTN calls to my laptop if I'm connected to my VPN from somewhere else in the world. I could also make outgoing calls from my home phone over VOIP from my laptop. I can use my main line as a FAX line, and also have PPP/terminal dialin ability. I can give different callers different outgoing messages depending on callerID. I can dial in and use touch tone to send stuff to Mister House, and read responses back using Festival. I can blacklist callerID's so that I never even hear the phone ring. I definitely see some more MH integration in the future.... I have visions of things so grand, that I'll never use them. :) Quoting Robert Mann <mh...@ea...>: > I have a TDM40B 4 port card and 2 X100P cards with no echo like that at all. > There have been many discussion on how to get rid of the echo but I have > never > had to do anything.
