IMnSHO ;-) If they're talking about support for their software then they've got the source so they can fix it themselves and they've got this mailing list. If they're talking about the end users using us as a support system (Open Source in general and this mailing list in particular) then they've got a problem as most Open Source support would not be tolerant of the naive end user directly. I would guess that vendor would shield the end user. Of course their could be the problem where they expect us to fix their bugs as well as our own and do it now. That kind of attitude won't work either. It takes a balance but that is also true of any commercial product that relies on proprietary software. Just try and get Cisco to fix a bug in one of their routers it can be a lesson in frustration. At least if we had the software then we could find the problem, fix it and give it to Cisco for their use/approval. BTW, I don't mean to be picking on Cisco I just work with them on a daily basis. Any large corporation can be frustrating to work with when things need to be done now. -- Linux Home Automation Neil Cherry nc...@co... http://home.comcast.net/~ncherry/ (Text only) http://linuxha.sourceforge.net/ (SourceForge) http://hcs.sourceforge.net/ (HCS II) |
