The curve is indeed steep, I'm struggling with windows version and bookmarks at the moment set via the _VIMRC file. But once you grasp how powerfull it is.. Exemple on the 24_days.html file I have created bookmarks for each day, I can type a jump command and location and jump to any of them instantly. I have my standard comments header pulled into one of the 30+ buffers, so my comments can all be exactly the same format with nearly instant ability to insert them with no mouse help whatsoever. You can even run any shell command and bring all the output instantly into your document. Hey, did I say I like VIM?
