First of all: I'm just a newbie at this and this group. I've been reading the messages and learning a lot. The message from Alan Womack (see below) brought me to this idea: why not use flash and an XML-socket connection to show a *realtime* and *active* floorplan? Info one these topics can be found here: * XML-socket => http://www.macromedia.com/support/flash/action_scripts/actionscript_dictiona ry/actionscript_dictionary860.html * perl socket-(echo)server => http://www.heliant.net/~stsai/code/ Using flash and perl in this way could enable us to see a realtime view of everything happening in our house. All you need is an XML-document(containing your 'house data') that gets sent once for loading the initial states of devices/lights/occupancy/temperatures/etc... in the floorplan. Then whenever one element changes a smaller XML-file can be sent to the (possibly remote) flash player to update the status of a particular object. Issues that prevent a solution like this to 'become mainstream' are the following: * a generic XML-schema or document structure has to be designed. * states of all objects are to be filled into the XML document (all of it when initialising the floorplan and just partially when an object changes.) and sent to the socket-server (wich echoes it to all connected clients) dynamically => can this be done by MH? * building a 'standard' flash-file that anyone can use without looking into the code (you can pass variables to the flash-player as parameters in the HTML-code. some of those parameters can tell the flash-player where to look for a 'map' or some image of the house to put into the floorplan). These issues are manageable if a few people can work on it. Could someone tell me if this is an interesting setup (possible Bruce or Jason - working on the floorplan)? Any suggestions or comments are highly appreciated. :-) Michael Van Wesenbeeck, - misterhouse newbie - mailto:mi...@st... *************************************************************************** Message: 6 Date: Sun, 22 Jun 2003 05:30:20 -0700 From: Alan Womack <arw...@wo...> Subject: re: [misterhouse-users] Floorplan To: Majordomo leben.com <mis...@li...> Organization: . I have a few iButton's sprinkled about the home for such things and that is the most used piece of information from Misterhouse now.
