Ken, I have Viavoice up and running on my Linux box, I don't use festival for text to speech but also ViaVoice. This is the relevant part of my mh.private.ini : code_dir=/usr/local/misterhouse/code data_dir=/usr/local/misterhouse/data voice_text=vv_tts sound_program=vv_tts voice_cmd=viavoice voice_names=male=> 1, female => 2, child => 3, elder_female => 7, elder_male => 8 viavoice_voice=female viavoice_awake_phrase={please wake up, hey mister house} viavoice_awake_response=whats up? viavoice_asleep_phrase={go to sleep, change to sleep mode} viavoice_timeout_response=Why dont you talk to me? viavoice_asleep_response=You will regret this Also make sure that you follow the steps from the MH faq 3.1 For me everything worked after upgrading and downgrading the soft to all the versions described in the faq. Also make sure that your mic is not in mute or that the volume is down ;-) If you have more questions you may always mail me. success Nico Ken Isle wrote: >I am running mandrake linux, festival, and viavoice. >I can't seem to get the VR to work.
