I haven't done it, but back when I was on the Audiotron mailing list, there were people who said they had very good performance from the 10BaseT port. The Audiotron is an embedded form of Windows CE so that may follow along with what you are seeing, but I'm pretty sure that Homeplug is platform independent. They only seem to have a driver for USB, but they recommend a Windows software package for both versions. Probably not necessary. ftp://ftp.linksys.com/pdf/plebr10plusb10_ug.pdf And they say it is X10-safe... Q. Do the instant PowerLine product cause interference with other home networking or powerline products? A. No. The Instant PowerLine product can co-exist with phoneline and wireless networking technologies. Instant PowerLine devices operates in a different frequency band than powerline control and can co-exist with technologies such as X-10, CEBus, and LONworks. I set up the network (3 PLEBR10's) and only Windows boxen can communicate, so far. I am about to put some net utilities onto the Mac, but I have to burn a CDRom first. I haven't tried the Linux boxes yet, so I'm hoping it will work as you say... The Mac did get an IP assigned, so it can talk; but nothing else works (from the Mac). I've got 4 of the LinkSys PowerLine modules (1 USB, 3 access points) and it works great with windows, not at all (yet) with Mac or Linux. I'll try to debug that issue. Did anyone report any X10 interference? HomePlug has done PowerLine communication right; read the details (a range of frequencies, inverse Fourier transforms to match specific frequency response every few minutes!). Security so other homes on your power-line distribution (transformer on pole is share-point) won't interfere or snoop... But, I need Mac and Linux (sob). Supposedly they are working towards a powerline home networking standard which is supposed to do 14Mb/s. They even have a product using this technology reviewed at http://computers.cnet.com/hardware/0-7055-404-6720669.html. These might be nice for placing an Audrey somewhere that you can't normally run a wire to. The line of products they'll be producing can be seen at http://www.phonex.com/productsNA_main.shtml and are about to hit the shelves soon. At $99 per node, you need two to get started, going up to 12 total on the same "network." That doesn't compare too badly to buying an access point and some PCMCIA cards. Still, I'm wondering how much interference something like this might cause for X10.
