Wouldn't you know it ... soon after spending $1000 on a 8.4" LCD 800 x 600 webpad, I get an email add for a $600 10.4" LCD 1024 x 768 pad! http://store.sonicblue.com/dr/v2/ec_MAIN.Entry10?SP=10024&PN=16&V1=39485&xid =25971&DSP=&CUR=840&PGRP=0&CACHE_ID=564500000056451 Normally priced at $2800 ($3300 for the CE version!), they have some sort of big sale. In fact, you need to use the above url, otherwise you will see the normal price. The email I got said the sale was through 6/28. Here are some stats I jotted down comparing the Aquapad (AQ) to the ProGear (PG): AQ: $850 + $70 cradle + $140 wireless card AQ: Transmeta 5400/5600 500 MHz AQ: 32 MB flash, 128 MB SDRAM SO-DIMM (256MB max) AQ: CE 3.0 AQ: 8.4" LCD 800 x 600 AQ: 6.3" x 10.6" X 1.1" AQ: 2.5 (ad was 1.5?) LB PG: $600 (+$200 for cradle) PG: Transmeta 3200 400 MHz PG: 5.6 Gig drive, 128 MB sdram PG: Win98 SE or Mobile Linux 2.4 PG: 9.0" x 11.0" x 1.0" PG 3.5 lbs PG: 1 USB, 1 IR, 1 PC Card, 802.11b (built in) A combination of things (Fathers Day, Birthday, and a nice royalty check from my wife's latest book) all convinced us (me mainly) that we could survive with 2 webpads in the house, so I ordered the Linux one. Hopefully I'll get it next week before we go on vacation and I'll report back initial impressions. Bruce |
