Well,,, I'm a new MH user. I've been toying with the Idea about getting it running for a year now. I had it running for a while on an NT4 box and it seemed very slow. I had been running the ActiveHome X10.com software for a while and I finally decided I want to do more control routines. Probably because the wife's been complaining so much about making dinner and the lights going out etc. It's taken me a couple weeks of remembering *nix and getting Linux up and running on a machine, Samba working, etc. I'm planning on putting some "$if_motion_sensed_dont_do_anything" lines in... It was nice to see that some code had been written for the Hawkeye sensors. I can still "hack and clone"... I got the 40 or so units programed in and the 15 or so groups created and the software is running pretty well. Its running on an old P133 with 48MB of RAM. I'm going to over clock it to 166 and get it up to 64 MB. I'm thinking I'm going to need to get a bigger more powerful box since I want to be able to do TTS and Play MP3s etc. I've noticed that I'm getting the "going to sleep for 2 or 5 seconds" once and a while,,, wondering why I'm getting that. Does the (CM11a) have a buffer? I like the web interface... and would be interested in making some changes. I've looked throught the code and will have to brush up on HTML before attempting to make changes. My assumption is that I can run TTS on any Win* box connected via the web interface and have it execute commands. It's going to be a rough couple days(for the wife) until I get all the kinks worked out of the configuration. I'm just wondering if i'm going to get home tonight and find every light inside and out turned on. lol It seems as if its going out and getting TV and Weather info every couple minutes. My ISP(dial-up) isn't going to like that. I am going to have to find that routine and slow it down a bit. I'm not getting the forcast info but am getting the current conditons for some reason. Also ,,, I'm only getting the first page of "channels" for the TV info. (haven't investigated it)... It takes me to ClickTV.com when I try to get then next group of channels. I saw a "school closing.pl" that looked interesting. Is there a NOAA/NWS "Watch/Warning" script around? Where you might trigger an event based on a Watch or Warning being posted on NWS for a particular area? I've purchased some of the "high-end" Leviton paddle switches with the memory. I couldn't do squat with them with Active Home,,, Probably because there is a different command string. I think I saw something out there for these beasts. I'm hoping that I will be able to TURN these two lights off via command "FINALLY". If you haven't noticed I left the directions in the box... and I've got a few nuts and bolts left and I'm not sure where they go... I might have to get the manual out.... :) DChew....(Pottstown PA.) _I'd like to do this for a living when I grow up_ |
