No, guess you're not missing something...
I'll make 'this' a simple string ok?

My handling of 'this' is due to new functionality introduced by
DEFINEFUNCTION2:
Within DEFINEFUNCTION2 one can specify that 'this' uses a register.
Consequently 'this' can be called in function body using: 
PUSH(r:1)
GETVARIABLE ...

I'm not sure you should. I think a 'this' will be a 'this' string
