I think tpm stands for Tex Package Meta (information). It's the info you can read in the properties section of the package manager and the info where to install the files. > I don't know enough about the inner workings of TeX/MiKTeX to > understand what this file is about; but it looks to me as if > 'splitidx.sty' does not need a file named 'splitindex.tex' at all > -- so why do you seem to want a file of that name? IMHO, using > \usepackage{splitidx} > is all you need. > > That produces a file \jobname.idx with lines like: \indexentry[dir]{Campbell!Martin|hyperpage}{3} \indexentry[act]{Craig!Daniel|hyperpage}{3} \indexentry[act]{Green!Eva|hyperpage}{3} That is not compatible with makeindex, because of the additional group. Now splitindex.(exe|pl|tex|class) create makeindex compatible files \jobname-dir.idx, \jobname-act.idx and execute makeindex on them. After that splitidx.sty can read the produced .ind files and include the splitted indices. > But perhaps I misunderstood your problem.
