That can't be - GLUT uses GLX. It's 99% certain that you somehow have two or more copies of libGL.so installed and some programs are picking up one whilst others are picking up something else. Try: find / -name libGL.so\* -print find / -name libMesaGL.so\* -print ...delete *EVERYTHING* you see and then do a clean install. At that point, you should have *ONLY* /usr/lib/libGL.so (Possibly with some version numbers tacked on the end) There is one other possibility (although it's a remote one). It's possible that the bits-per-pixel settings for your GLX-only programs are different than for the GLUT programs that you tried...maybe that lame-assed Rage mobility chip can't do the pixel depths you are asking for and is thus falling back to software emulation. Come to think of it, is the Rage mobility even supported by Mesa? Are your successful programs drawing textured polygons in nice large windows?
