With item 3510976 now closed, could you consider adding an option to then installer which would create link name maxima in /usr/local/lib to maxima.sh?
Of course, the use should be prompted it such a link is desired.
It would allow another programs in unix style to use maxima without needing additional configuration tweaks.

Closing this item. Maybe it has already been implemented -- make install does create /usr/local/bin/maxima. If that's not it, maybe someone can say what's needed. The referenced item isn't findable anymore (since Sourceforge renumbered all the bug reports).
