I rewrote _gtkagg using cxx and this seems to have fixed the problem
(at least on my test systems).  Flush the old, and try:

http://nitace.bsd.uchicago.edu:8080/files/share/matplotlib-0.54.1a.win32-py2.3.exe

FYI, this should have your errorbar fixes in as well.
