I don't have my laptop with an Atheros card on at the moment, but I remember that I had to add more than one -I option to build wpa_supplicant against madwifi. Try adding something like "-I../../madwifi/madwifi-src/net80211" to your compiler options in the wpa_supplicant build configuration. At some point I'll get round to build rpms of madwifi's headers and wpa_supplicant.
