This is strictly not on topic for this list but perhaps someone can help or point me to the right resource. I've got a Netgear WG511T card working well but would like to fully automate startup and shutdown (on insertion and removal) if possible. cardctl tells me ######################################## redwood:/var/log# cardctl ident Socket 0: product info: "Atheros Communications, Inc.", "AR5001-0000-0000", "Wireless LAN Reference Card", "00" manfid: 0x0271, 0x0012 function: 6 (network) ######################################## and lspci -v ######################################## 0000:03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg NIC (rev 01) Subsystem: Netgear: Unknown device 4b00 Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 11 Memory at 20800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2 ######################################## I've added the following sections to /etc/pcmcia/config: ######################################## #-- my add for madwifi device "madwifi_cb" class "madwifi" module "wlan", "ath_hal", "ath_pci" card "Netgear WG511T Atheros 802.11a/b/g adapter" manfid 0x0271, 0x0012 bind "madwifi_cb" ######################################## (I know that this is the configuration that the cardmgr uses because it complained about syntax errors. ;) When I plug the card in, no modules are loaded. Log messages from kern.log for insertion and removal respectively are: ######################################## Nov 28 10:30:54 redwood kernel: cs: cb_alloc(bus 3): vendor 0x168c, device 0x0013 Nov 28 10:30:54 redwood kernel: PCI: Enabling device 03:00.0 (0000 -> 0002) Nov 28 10:31:00 redwood kernel: cs: cb_free(bus 3) ######################################## First off I was surprised to see that the vendor ID reported on insertion didn;t match the manfid reported by cardctl, but perhaps these are not related. I've tried both in the config file and neither seems to get the modules loaded. I'd appreciate any suggestions to resolve this. BTW, my syntax to load the modules was not exactly the same as what was indicated in the README. I use the following commands to bring up the card and network: modprobe wlan modprobe ath_hal modprobe ath_pci iwconfig ath0 essid "<myapID>" # iwconfig ath0 key <mykey> ifconfig ath0 up dhclient -pf /var/run/dhclient.ath0.pid ath0 route add default gw 192.168.100.1 kernel 2.4.26 using pcmcia-cs 3.2.5 on a Debian testing system thanks! hank -- Beautiful Sunny Winfield |
