Hey all. I got my atheros card (level one pci model) running as an access point with WEP on Debian (planning to write the 92874624th mini howto on it and putting it on my site ;). (with HEAD branch I guess, since I didn't specify anything special) I have a few questions however... This is what iwconfig looks like: sunrise:~/madwifi/tools# iwconfig ath0 ath0 IEEE 802.11g ESSID:"POWERLESS" Mode:Master Frequency:2.412GHz Access Point: 00:03:2F:22:87:B1 Bit Rate=0kb/s Tx-Power=12 dBm Sensitivity=0/3 Retry:off RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Encryption key:****SNIP**** Security mode:open Power Management:off Link Quality:23/94 Signal level:-72 dBm Noise level:-95 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 * Is it normal it says 0kb/sec there? * Do retry, rts threshold and fragment threshold mean anything? Should they be enabled, if so how? * Is there a way to increase sensitivity or so? (0/3 seems low?) * Is it normal I can put Tx-Power to anything and it's reflected in iwconfig? (iwconfig ath0 txpower 200 puts it at 200 dBm, but I don't think the card is actually using that ;) Thanks from a wireless newbie who is happy his girlfriend can surf without silly cables ;) Tom |
