I have two issues which are probably caused by the same things, and I was wondering if any of you had already found a fix for them. I'm currently running heavily customized Ubuntu Gutsy (pre-release) on 1st gen Macbook. I use gdm, gnome and compiz fusion. My kernel is 2.6.22.7 with mactel patches from maybe 2 weeks ago. First of all exiting Gnome fails consistently. Nothing seems to happen, and I can only move the mouse pointer. The computer is still responsive, as I can ssh in and restart it, if I want. I've also been experiencing somewhat random hangs and reboots when switching to a text terminal (VT) from X. Switch to VT works, but instead of a terminal, I get randomly placed grey blocks on black background, clearly the same size as one character in the terminal. After reboot rEFIt loads just fine, but it for some reason fails to load Grub. I have to press the power button for 5 seconds to shutdown the computer, after which rEFIt loads Grub like it's supposed to. I've experienced the same crashes on Debian etch, Debian testing and Ubuntu Gutsy prerelease. All this looks like a framebuffer issue to me... have any of you experienced same kind of problems and if so, did you find out what was causing this? I'll attach my kernel config here if that helps.
