LTSP5 uses "jetpipe" instead of "lp_server" to accomplish, basically, the same thing. If it is a USB printer, use: PRINTER_0_DEVICE="/dev/usb/lp0" For parallel, use: PRINTER_0_DEVICE="/dev/lp0" You can create a shell session on the client with: SCREEN_02=shell (add SCREEN_07=ldm to keep an ldm screen) Then, you can switch to the thin client console and check that all is well. Telnet to port 9100 should still work. Since it is not, something is not running properly.
