Hi Tom, I am using lkcdutils-4.1 and kernel patches for 2.4.18 (manually applied it on 2.4.26). lcrash works fine on a dump image. The problem happens only when I move to an SMP box (2 xeon processors with 4GB of RAM) for live debugging. I booted my desktop (Pentium) with the same kernel image and modules and live debugging with lcrash works absolutely fine. So not sure why its not able to load ksyms on the SMP box. I am trying to debug it using gdb and will update if I can find out something. Which version of lcrash (from the LKCD source tree) are you using? Also, what is the architecture of your dump? I would not think that the problem is with the kernel config if you were able to generate the dump. The only 2.4.X testing I've done has been with SN2 ia64 systems. Dumps from these systems are somewhat different than dumps from generic LKCD 2.4.x systems. That's because SGI had its own version of LKCD and lcrash... The basic support for the 2.4.x kernel is there. I have been working on the 7.X.X tree. Have you tried an lcrash from that tree? Also, did you step through the lkcdutils init using gdb to see the actual point of failure? The error message you are seeing is rather vague and misleading (I admit). You really need to walk to the point of failure to see what's going on. If there is some way you can get me a copy of the dump, I can take a look at it (assuming I can build an lcrash for that arch). One other thing, does lcrash fail on the live system, or just on a dump?
