Hello, This custom dump patch extends the crash dump mechanism (lkcd) to allow different parts of memory to be selectively placed in a crash dump or excluded from the dump. This patch is created against 2.4.17 kernel and the current CVS lkcd 2.4 sources. See the 'Custom Dump' document for the complete explanation of interfaces and the design changes that are needed to implement this feature. Even though this document was posted on Dec16, I am attaching it again in this e-mail. This document outlines the modification of lkcd, lkcd_config command that is used to read user requests and pass them to the kernel using 'dumpfs' virtual filesystem, and lcrash tools. But the lkcd_config and lcrash tools modification will be developed later. Hence, to use the custom dump patch, the user has to create the 'dumpfs' filesystem entries for passing various user requests. Please see the 'Custom dump Instructions' document that explains the configuration of 'dumpfs' filesystem, various requests and filesystem entries that will be created to pass these requests. Let me know your comments/suggestions. Thanks Haren (See attached file: customdump.patch) (See attached file: customdump_instructions.html) (See attached file: customobjdump.html) |
