Problem with RC5 remote control

I have several Philips remotes which are using RC5 codes. I have read in the
FAQ that irrecord can't find the codes.  I've tried it, and it displays
"something went wrong" in the key learning phase.
I have also tried the generic RC5 and RC5-a configuration files, but no
success.

So is there a method to find the RC5 codes ?
Should it be possible to modify irrecord so that it works ?
