This patch is so simple that I'm a little embarrassed that it has taken me this long to do, but then again I've had to understand the whole program, piece by piece, before I could really make it work. Like the fact that a sample rate of 0 means: use the the gpio irq. There is one issue, though. Sometimes "rmmod lirc_gpio" will block until there is an event from the remote. I'm not sure why this is happening, but I think it is because of the way lirc_dev handles the interrupts. (I could be more than wrong, of course) I've tried lircd with xmms and lircmd with XFree 3.3. Both work flawlessly. :-) It's nice to be able to control my box using the remote. Thanks everybody. There goes the patch.
