Folks, I am new to lirc and need to fill in some of the gaps in my knowledge. Hopefully this is the right forum do to that. In summary.... What I'm trying to do ================= Drive MythTV (0.22 on Xubuntu 9.10) from my Logitech remote. The Hardware ============ I have a Logitech Harmony 555. The HTPC has a Hauppauge WinTV NOVA TD-500 and a Hauppauge WinTV NOVA HD S2. Both have built in (USB?) IR receivers. I am choosing to use the TD-500. The Configuration =============== I have configured the Logitech Harmony 555 from the Logitech database with the WINTV-NOVA-TD-500 device. I have the standard hardware.conf and lircd.conf generated by the config utility which runs when you install the lirc package on Xubuntu. Running irw on the HTPC all of the buttons produce the correct/expected output for both the original Hauppauge remote and the 555. The Problem =========== Basically - there aren't enough buttons! With MythTV there are many many things you can do from the keyboard. The Logitech database entry for the Hauppauge remote only has 50 or so buttons - as that's how many buttons there are on the original remote. How do I get more buttons? Solutions ======== One thought I had was to ask Logitech if they can provide a database entry with more buttons - and I will pursue that separately with Logitech. The other approach that occured to me is to get the 555 to mimic a remote which: a) has many more buttons b) is present in the Logitech database c) sends signals which can be received/processed by the receiver in the NOVA TD-500 (or NOVA HD S2) It's part (c) where my knowledge of IR, IR receivers and LIRC lets me down. The Sony STR-DA5300ES meets criteria (a) and (b) and this approach is discussed in this thread http://www.mythtvtalk.com/forum/hardware/7871-biggest-baddest-best-remote-control.html I used the same hardware.conf (TD-500 specific) and the lircd.conf posted in the thread but when I tried it out neither irw nor irrecord detected any signal. Is the receiver in the TD-500 capable of processing the signals from a (mimicked) Sony STR-DA5300ES? Do I need to modify my hardware.conf? Any help would be much appreciated.
