Hi Jeremy, I installed the latest lirc and lirc-modules-source packages using your sources (thank you!) and then re-ran irrecord to generate a new lircd.conf. Unfortunately, I'm still having the same issue. But the good new is that I'm now able to get output from mode2. Previously I got an error when I ran "mode2 -H udp -d 5000", which is why I tried "mode2 -d /dev/lircd". My mode2 output is pasted to: http://paste.ubuntu.com/273633/. I'm seeing that mode2 displays every key press, while irw only displays every other key press. So at least I know that my IR signals are definitely being received.
