Which Yamaha remote do you have? I was able to use my Yamaha remote by 
getting a serial ir device and then playing with codes and irrecord. It 
is possible you have the same remote as me or a similar one and I could 
give you pointers. I tried for quite a while to use the hauppauge ir 
receiver but they use a very odd communication pattern and I couldn't 
find anything compatible.
