Hi everyone: I hope my problem isn't too "newbie"... I'm just starting to dive into the video editing hobby, and I figured what the heck, I'll use my Linux box. I'm attempting to send recorded data from my camera, across the firewire, and store it on my hard drive (for future editing). If I can get capture to work, that's icing on the cake. I built the drivers previously, but just now got around to playing with them. They appear to work fine, as you'll see by the output below. However, I can't seem to get any capture devices to a) recognize the camera device on the ieee1394 bus, or b) recognize captured data from the bus. In the case of the former, I start coriander but get this error: "Warning: could not find a Digital Camera on the bus. Please check that: - the cables are properly set - the bus and/or camera are powered - the repeaters/hubs are powered - your camera is compliant with the Digital Camera specs v1.20 or later (see http://www.1394ta.org). NOTICE: All consumer grade cameras in which you can insert a video tape are NOT compliant with the above mentionned specifications and therefor cannot be controlled with Coriander. (These cameras can be controlled with the AV/C protocol, please refer to http://linux1394.sourceforge.net)" In the case of the latter, I was able to capture(?) data using dvgrab, but none of the typical suspects (aviplay, xine, Quicktime Player, Windows Media Player) were able to recognize the file. Both my camera and firewire card as listed as "Works Great" on the linux1394 site. FWIW, yes, I did have the camera powered on and sending a signal at the time I started coriander. The funny thing is, gscanbus has no problem at all finding the device and even *controlling* it (using AV/C, I assume). After re-reading the coriander error, I can only assume that this camera is not compliant with the v1.20 specs (whatever those are). If this is the case, can anyone suggest an application that *will* grab and display my DV? I've attempted to use xawtv (with the -c flag pointing to /dev/video1394), but it doesn't see any valid capture devices. Xawtv's hardware scan confirms this, only listing my STB TV PCI (bttv) card. I apologize if I'm missing something ridiculously simple... hopefully someone here can clue me in. :-) Thanks!
