I also tried FIX MBR and Noton Disk Doctor with no success. Sulaiman -------- Forwarded Message -------- From: Sulaiman The WordSmith <sul...@th...> To: eff...@ao... Subject: Hard Drive Board Date: Sat, 01 Jan 2011 17:25:31 -0500 Hi Brett, Recently I purchased a "HITACHI HTS428040F9AT00 40.01G ATA/IDE AJ300 B/A0A2 A/A" board. Item number 200397766958. I am writing you in regards to a problem I have. The problem that I originally had with my HD is the it was exposed to high voltage (surge) which destroyed the MotherBoard, CPU and HD. After the surge no computer would recognize the HD during the bios boot up. After replacing the HD Board with your part 2 tower computers were able to recognize the HD during Bios boot up while it is connected via an internal 3.5 to 2.5 HD adpater. But Windows XP will not see the HD Drive Letter (i.e. C:, D:, etc) and my Linuix Fedora 9 Operating system can not mount the drive when it is conected via a external USB Hard Encosure. When I try to mount the HD I get the following error: ############################################################ [root@sulaiman ~]# mount -v -t ntfs /dev/sda /media/disk NTFS signature is missing. Failed to mount '/dev/sda': Invalid argument The device '/dev/sda' doesn't seem to have a valid NTFS. Maybe the wrong device is used? Or the whole disk instead of a partition (e.g. /dev/sda, not /dev/sda1)? Or the other way around? [root@sulaiman ~]# [root@sulaiman ~]# mount -v -t ntfs /dev/sdb /home/sulaiman/hitachi_files Error reading bootsector: Input/output error Failed to mount '/dev/sdb': Input/output error NTFS is either inconsistent, or there is a hardware fault, or it's a SoftRAID/FakeRAID hardware. In the first case run chkdsk /f on Windows then reboot into Windows twice. The usage of the /f parameter is very important! If the device is a SoftRAID/FakeRAID then first activate it and mount a different device under the /dev/mapper/ directory, (e.g. /dev/mapper/nvidia_eahaabcc1). Please see the 'dmraid' documentation for more details. [root@sulaiman ~]# ############################################################ Based on this information I believe that the Master Boot Record or Primary Partiton is corrupt. I do not deal with issues like this every day. So I would like to know what is the correct procudure to use. |
