OK - I am absolutely pulling my hair our trying to get this work! I am trying to set up my Alcatel Speedtouch USB modem with the Speedtouch driver and the br2684ctl utility on Suse Linux 8.0 with 2.4.18 kernel. I don't have much experience configuring linux, and have to admit that this configuration is an absolute nightmare!! Its no wonder linux will not catch on with the general public if you have to jump through hoops like this to get your hardware working..!! After following all the instructions at linux-usb.sourceforge.net/SpeedTouch/howto.html, I've vome to the following conclusions (which maybe wrong, and part of my problems): - kernel 2.4.18 already has pppoe support - 2.4.18 already has the br2684 patch applied? I followed the instructions to apply the patch before I compliled my kernel, and the option in 'make menuconfig' to include rfc2684 support was there in the menu before and after I applied the patch. I guess the patch is now applied anyway - didn't get any errors. - hotplugging already configured in 2.4.18? - atm support wuth 2.4.18 is a later version than the suggested (in the howto) 0.78? The settings in the ppp/options file for pppd do not like the pppoe plugin line (says not found), or the nas0 interface (says device not found) - so pppd does not start with these two options included (it does start if I comment them out, but thats probably no help) This is where my problems started: - I could not compile brctl-010226.c with the options shown - it couldn't find atmbr2684.h. This header file doesn't seem to be in the rpm for atm0.78 either, so where does it come from? I downloaded the already compiled version from http://home.sch.bme.hu/~cell/br2684/ and this runs, so I'm assuming my environment is setup ok? The speedtouch mgmt driver loads as well, and both my lights on my modem cycle through green flashing, and then end up as both steady green lights, so I'm assuming the driver is loaded, and my modem now as sync. When I run the br2684ctl app though, I get the following errors: RFC1483/2684 bridge: Interface "nas0" could not be created, reason: No such device RFC1483/2684 bridge: Communicating over ATM 0.8.35, encapsulation: LLC RFC1483/2684 bridge: Fatal: failed to connect on socket Any ideas? I'm now completely stuck on this - any help or suggestions greatly appreciated! Thanks, Kevin Hooke __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo!
