The ATM tools can be made to work in a perfectly reliable manner with Fedora Core 4, (but as I recall I had to get a special 1 - off distribution of one component from Eric Kenzie to overcome one issue in one component that was gagging the gcc included in FC-4). That may well be patched at source forge now. More problematic is the performance of old cards in new hardware. I developed and maintain a driver for the Interphase 5515. I have had troubles getting these old cards to work reliably in either of a couple of one year old IBM/Lenovo desktops and in a Sun i86 box acquired this year. The ia5515's continue to work fine under FC4 on 2 year old and older PC's also running FC-4. The new systems work fine with Interphase 5575's and the HE so if you have a really old card you might want to try it in a really old system. I had similar problems using Redhat/Fedora due (if I recall correctly) to the arrangement/location of kernel source and headers under Fedora.
