In order to solve some hardware incompatibilities, we have recently upgraded one of our client's machines from Fedora Core 3 to Fedora Core 6. We run FoxPro for UNIX (SCO) under Linux-ABI, and had no problems (bar the occasional "tape ioctl not implemented" message). However, since upgrading to Fedora Code 6, and installing Linux-ABI as a patch onto the vanilla kernel, we have seen some odd symptoms occurring. The software will run fine, with several users, for anywhere from an hour to a day. After this, (it seems to be when someone else tries to log on, but it's hard to tell exactly), a kernel Oops message is logged, and a segmentation fault occurs. The stack-trace in the oops message seems to vary, but always seems to point at an ABI ioctl. It also lists some bad numbers (often 20202020) in the segmentation fault. After the error has occurred, the only thing that seems to clear it is a hard reboot of the machine; even rmmod- then insmod-ing all the ABI modules doesn't seem to clear it. Can anyone suggest a possible cause, or how we would go about investigating this error? Yours, Robert Lee. |
