I have updated/added various things in the HOWTO in response to various considerations this past month. In particular, I've added a section on "Optimizations and Adjustments": http://linux-7110.sourceforge.net/howtos/netbook_new/x397.htm mainly on the various /proc settings one can set. I solicit a review/comments of this section - anything I've got wrong or missed? I've learned that the firefox "throbber" (that thing in the upper right corner of firefox that circles when a web page is loading) may consume considerable cpu cycles. This throbber is just an animated gif file, and one example throbber gif file consumed some 30% of cpu when directly viewed in firefox; the netBook's graphics are not quick. I've changed my throbber [no comments please] to be a static green dot when the page is complete, and a static red dot when the page is loading. The HOWTO has a link under Applications/browsers for how to do this. B.D. |
