If you're considering putting that into two separate fields, than we
might as well do that now. The only thing pLog would need is a nice
upgrade script, whenever a new version comes out.

So far the best upgrade script I've seen is the one from phpAdsNew.

There, while updating, the user only needs to upload new files
(excluding the config file), and while calling the admin interface
he's brought to an update screen, where the only thing he does is
click 'Next' :) simple, and quite idiot-proof :D
