Thank you for adding support to the 1.1.10 release. Is there a work-around for me with the 1.1.6 release I am currently running? It is part of the trusty LTS distro and the Ubuntu maintainers tell me it is unlikely to be updated by them. Given this, a work-around of some sort it needed.

you can edit the udev rules of libmtp and add the ids in a line there.

    they probably are in:
    /lib/udev/rules.d/69-mtp.rules

and copy one of the lines and replace 1004 and 622a in there.

Unfortunately that file does not exist on my system, can you provide me with one for my phone?

I did locate a copy of a 69-mtp.rules on another one of my systems, but that system has version 1.1.3 as opposed to 1.1.6 on it. Is the format of the rules file the same with that version? If so, will use it as a starting point.

I edited 69-mtp.rules to add my device and it is now being mounted, although I see a few messages:

    Device 0 (VID=1004 and PID=622a) is UNKNOWN.
Please report this VID/PID and the device model to the libmtp development team
Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.Android device detected, assigning default bug flags
Error 1: Get Storage information failed.
Received event PTP_EC_StoreAdded in session 1

A file folder for it opens on the desktop and I can browse the files, but the mountpoint is:

    /var/run/user/1000/gvfs/mtp:host=%5Busb%3A002%2C013%5D

Is there something I missed somewher that can make this a bit "cleaner"?

this path iscreated by gvfs, so not really libmtp area anymore.
