RE the Sony DFW-X710 which locks up when I change the "shutter speed" setting, and requires a power cycle to re-enable it: Thanks for the tips. I investigated further and think i have a handle on the problem now. 1) Two (out of five) of the cameras are an older model "DFW-X710 v1.02A" rather than "DFW-X710 v1.11A" and only those two cameras are vulnerable to the problem. This explains why I was never able to reproduce the problem on my test bench. 2) I was unable to cause the symptom with a simple test program, and it occurred to me what was happening: the test program was straight C, whereas the real application is multi-threaded Java. Fetching images and changing settings are handled by two different threads. The camera was being hit with two commands at once and could not cope. I have done some work on thread synchronization and I think the problem has been eliminated.
