Well, that's just making a sphere, really. 

Making it constant size is what's also happening with the Move Tool in
move_tool.cpp:226, where you scale the manipulator to show it at a
constant size.

I guess it's just scaled to the distance between the camera and the
object, then divided?.

I guess the best thing to do is to sweep a profile along gluNurbsCurve,
then, to make it tubelike?. I don't think OpenGL supports doing this
otherwise?.
