So, I'm pleased to say that gettext() and co. are now working like a 
charm in K-3D 0.5.  If you build *and install* the latest, you can setup 
a "chef" locale and use it:

  $ su -c "localedef -i /usr/share/i18n/locales/en_US chef"
  $ LANG=chef k3d

Of course there isn't much point in getting started on localization yet 
since the NGUI is so incomplete, but it's nice to see everything fall 
into place and function properly.
