Jim, I, too, find python's (hence jython's) language model sometimes less than orthogonal. Still, the python model *is* better than those of many predecessor languages, scripting or otherwise, and language design is an evolving discipline. Orthogonality of construct is why I like Ruby, and try to contribute to JRuby.
