The point is that it is different from the prevalent user interface ideas used in modern systems. In fact its so different that its hard for newcomers, who are used with modern ui design, to understand how to use it. What I am saying is that the learning curve could be made less steep just by creating documentation that speaks to non lisp/emacs people as well. Documentation that has slightly different focus and helps explain the underlaying principles of things before introducing the heavy machinery of the emacs world. > If you want to do, what I think from what to do from what you said: > extend JDE, then you (one) will have to write lisp to do that. The point is there is a difference between being a user of a tool and being a programmer of tools. So, before I can be a programmer of jde functionality, I have to understand emacs and jde properly. Therefore I am saying 1- I want to redesign the we pages and the documentation to make it more accessible. 2- When I have done that I can use the docs to learn emacs and jde properly. 3- When I know what functionality actually exists and how it works, I can start contributing some code to jde to get the advanced functionality missing that I need. thomas |
