I have a business need to be able to switch jdbc connections at runtime based off of a set of criteria. Mainly, I have a connection to database 1 and then possibly in the next transaction I need a connection to database 2. Last year I extended the current JBoss JCA code to allow for this on a primitive level (with the help of David Jenks). I've had some requirement changes in this area that needs to add more flexibility and power to my current solution. My questions are: 1. Is anybody else doing anything similar to this? I'm pretty sure that I can't be the first to have done this. 2. Is there a better solution for this problem in the J2EE architecture than manipulating the JCA code. 3. If JCA is the way to go, would it be better to completely rewrite an entire JCA from scratch or still continue to extend the current JBoss JCA's? Main problem here is as jboss code upgrades occur, I have to rework my custom JCA implementation to follow. I appreciate any responses on this. Dan Bunker Senior Software Engineer ProQuest |
