Ok,
with xmms it does not play.
Another data of the configuration of the system is the use of the file all-20050412.tar.bz2, copies all the content in/usr/local/lib/codecs/.
When proving with mplayer it plays perfectly. The following thing called the attention to me: cat/var/log/messages:
Sep 14 16:41:46 fc3 kernel: application to mplayer you use audio obsolete OSS interface.
But to mplayer works well!
Today desinstale the package irmp3-v0.5.6.tar.gz and compiles and installs a new package irmp3-v0.5.7pre2.tar.gz of the following form:
. /configure
make
make install
later I execute: irmp3d - l/var/log/irmp3d.log
and soon: irmp3 play < song.mp3 >
and plays!!
When seeing log: cat/var/log/irmp3d.log

what happen??
it means all the attempts from irmp3 to try to recognise the file failed. which is quite weird
do other file work ? are you able to ply the file with other players ?
what irmp3 modules have you compiled in ?
thx
Jeremy

help me, thanks.
when you launch irmp3 as a normal user (that is, not with an initialisation script) irmp3 is not run as root.
root is the only one to have any rights to access /dev/lirc0
that might be your problem
