Pito, I cleaned up a bit the whole channel format handling (turning ChannelFormatIF into ChannelFormat), so from now on it is possible to have the Channel#format typed with ChannelFormat (instead of an integer). All relevant modifications are commited now into the CVS repository. Therefore you can say now, for example: System.out.println("channel format: " + channel.getFormat()); which in turn will produce one of the strings you specified.
