Hi, Please read in-line for my inputs. Btw, I request all Gujarati localization interested people to join the indianoss-gujarati at lists dot sf dot net , where we actually communicate the Gujarati localization discussions.. ----- Original Message ---- From: Bernard Massot <bm...@fr...> To: "Indian Linux group ," <ind...@li...> Sent: Tuesday, 9 June, 2009 10:45:28 PM Subject: Re: [Indlinux-group] Program for locale file data testing Ankit Patel wrote: > 1. in LC_MONETARY currency_symbol should be actually "૱" It's neither "રૂ" nor "રુ". As per the unicode chart. That's what's written in Unicode chart but I'm not sure anyone uses it in everyday life. Can anyone actually living in Gujarat right now confirm that? I wonder how many Gujaratis would understand what the circle is. ==> Here is the URL of the SSC (10th) Maths Question Book from Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board website: http://www.gseb.org/gseb/download/student/question-bank/gujarati-medium/std-10/Maths.pdf . Check the page numbers 13, there you will find the usage of word "૱". > 2. in LC_TIME the abday for Thursday should be "ગુરુ" and day should be "ગુરુવાર" only. I just checked the spelling once again on the Gujartilexicon, wikipedia, Gujarati Akshar Prakashan dictionary by A J Patel, as well as Alpha Dictionary. I got influenced by the calendar I see everyday at home, which uses the "ગુરૂ" spelling (like most calendars?). It seems a lot of Gujaratis like writing "રૂ" all the time, whatever the academic spelling. However "ગુરુ" is what's given in dictionnaries so it must be the right spelling and should be used. ==> So, you agree to use the correct word "ગુરુ". > 4. "શ્રીમાન" or "શ્રી" both can be used, there is no issue with that. Not a big deal, I agree. ==> So no issues here, right? > 5. "સશ્રી" is definitely not in use nowdays, but it's the word to be placed. Why not. ==> No idea. Thanks! Ankit http://www.indianoss.org/ Cricket on your mind? Visit the ultimate cricket website.
