It is indeed the development branch: however, regular 0.9 snapshots are available to download from ilohamail.org in tar-gz form. The latest is very stable and includes sorting messages by conversation thread - my favourite addition to the features. I'm not sure how much functionality is reduced by using POP3, but I'm sure that if you have half an hour to spare it's worth having a look!
