I have been omitting the `-a' flag in `clisp-hs-program' without apparent problems since I first used ILISP. Indeed, I created another dialect derived from CLISP, whose program arglist includes `-ansi', for when I need maximum ANSI compliance. But I understand that this may not work in general and, if you prefer, I will change the setting back to `-ansi'.
