I am having issues uninstalling Privoxy. I doubt that Privoxy is the problem. If I found my program being used for malicious purposes I would be a bit upset, and I would want to nip it in the bud. So what Malicious software is using Privoxy and why is it not showing up on 3 different scanners? Is it Privoxy that is reinstalling its self or a third party program reinstalling Privoxy? I read the users manual, it is unhelpful in this case. Please help me with this problem.
I have uninstalled using the uninstall file and the --uninstall from the users manual both just to see Privoxy running again when I open up task man after a reboot. What can we do to solve this problem?

As a Privoxy contributor, I am indeed upset at the prospect of someone using this code for nefarious purposes. But as I'm sure you can appreciate, we have no control over this.

If you or anyone could tell us what program is installing it, maybe we could help. But we did not create the installer to continuously reinstall itself; that is among the reasons why you aren't finding your answer in the documentation. When we wrote it, we had no idea that someone would use it this way. And, again, as I'm sure you can appreciate - we have no way to help you or tell you how to make it stop. You're barking up the wrong tree here. Unless you find out what is doing the installing, we have no way to help. It isn't the Privoxy project as delivered by us that is doing it.

David, Thank you for your timely response. If I do find the bad program I will let you know. Is there anything In Privoxy that I can Shut off that will at least stop it from doing its job until we do find this bad dog that needs the booting? V/R Jared

You haven't mentioned your platform, but I suspect Windows. From a command line, you could search for all the places where privoxy.exe lives:
    dir \privoxy.exe /s /b
and get an idea where it's hiding (if that's even what they called the executable). If it comes back, it's getting copied from somewhere on your machine. Find out where that is, and you're one step closer to the solution.

Some information about malware based on Privoxy is collected here:
