In alternate playlist mode it should have the option to crossfade between the two playlists, not waiting for one song to end and than start the one from the other playlist.
I added a new 'Fade Over' playlist mode to do what you require. It's in the Git repository. I should probably add a third cross-fader profile with a quiet mid point so it's like the inter-track fades.

A new crossfader profile was added with the idea that it would be used with the new Fade Over mode.
