No

http://identifiers.org/genecards/ABL1 redirects to http://www6.unito.it/cards/cgi-bin/carddisp.pl?gene=ABL1
which for a week or so has been giving the error

Object not found!

The requested URL was not found on this server. The link on the referring page seems to be wrong or outdated. Please inform the author of that page about the error.

If you think this is a server error, please contact the webmaster.
Error 404
www6.unito.it

Maybe the target for the redirection has changed its URL scheme; I don't know. However, there are other, working locations listed at http://identifiers.org/genecards/. On the other hand, two of the locations listed don't work. Here's the status:

http://www.ebi.ac.uk/miriam/main/resources/MIR:00100413
works: http://www.genecards.org/cgi-bin/carddisp.pl?gene=ABL1
(it seems genecards_v3.hgc.jp redirects to genecards.org)

http://www.ebi.ac.uk/miriam/main/resources/MIR:00100407
works: http://www.genecards.org/cgi-bin/carddisp.pl?gene=ABL1

http://www.ebi.ac.uk/miriam/main/resources/MIR:00100410
fails: http://bioinformatics.mdanderson.org/genecards/cgi-bin/carddisp.pl?gene=ABL1

http://www.ebi.ac.uk/miriam/main/resources/MIR:00100412
fails: http://genecards.bioinformatics.nl/cgi-bin/carddisp.pl?gene=ABL1

I don't know why the default redirect ends up at unito.it, which is not on the above list. Hence I report the error here, though you might want to approach the webmaster at unito.it.

Suggestions:
Change the default redirect to a server that works.
Check whether the failing redirects above are permanently down, have changed their url scheme, or just have temporary problems.
* Automate a check of whether resources are still available, e.g. once a week.

Thanks!

Sorry, misformatted the suggestions. I meant a bulleted list:

    • Change the default redirect to a server that works.
    • Check whether the failing redirects above are permanently down, have changed their url scheme, or just have temporary problems.
    • Automate a check of whether resources are still available, e.g. once a week.

    Dear Jon,
Thanks again for your input for identifiers.org. We very much appreciate your feedback!
    In response to your bullets:

      • This one is my fault. We have a 'primary' flag which should preferentially redirect to an up (primary) resource. In most cases this has been automatically assigned. For some reason, in this case, it has been assigned to a deprecated URL (a mirror that died, and was removed from our 'live' linking). This will be followed up on our side, to ensure no other resources are assigned this way.
      • We actually have in place a daily check on all our links. The issue is follow up. For example it is very hard to find a 'person' to contact for some resources, and this is one of them.

I have just mailed them again, and will cross my fingers for a reply.
I have also changed the primary resource, so hopefully all should be good on your side,

    cheers

    Nick

Just by way of an update - I have been in touch now and am awaiting confirmation that all mirrors will be retired, leaving a single resource for this information.

    cheers

    Nick
