Thanks Olivier: I found it. Backups and recoveries are run locally on the machine that has the database. I identified the server as "localhost", so the DB named in the Shutdown() argument was "localhost:tfa_multi_user". "tfa_multi_user" is the alias. As I was rolling through all the possible iterations of arguments to ServiceFactory() and Shutdown(), I came to try a blank for the server name. When I dropped "localhost", and just gave the alias, the shutdown, and subsequent recovery, worked. The user identified to ServiceFactory() can be the DB owner, and doesn't need to be the DBA, which is good. I didn't want to require the user invoke the DBA's password just to recover their own database. Of course it also works with the DBA. "localhost" can be used to identify the server by the backup and for opening the database in the recovery apps, but don't try to use it to in the path to the database for Shutdown. I appreciate your assistance. Thanks Larry |
