It sounds to me like htdig is indexing the standard HTML files that get installed when you install the apache and apache-manual RPM packages. You need to change your start_url setting in htdig.conf to point to the URL of the documents you want to index. For XML files, though, you will likely need to find and install an external converter that can turn these into plain text or HTML for indexing. -- Gilles R.
